Blessed is He Who Come in the Name of the Lord

March 24, 2024 Speaker: Keith Kneeshaw Series: Psalms

Topic: Jesus Passage: Psalm 118

On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey (Triumphal Entry, Matthew 21:1-11), and the people declared, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" They were welcoming a king to deliver them and save them. What many people don't know is that they were quoting Psalm 118, which pointed to the salvation of God's people by them crying out, "Save us, we pray, O LORD!" The people were excited for the arrival of the Messiah, but their opinion quickly turned to rejection as they saw Passion Week unfold. Join us on Sunday as we explore how Psalm 118 was fulfilled by the Triumphal Entry.

In preparation for Easter, here is a chronological reading list through Passion Week.  The readings match up to the days leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection. Note that since the reading for Maundy Thursday in John is many chapters long, it was split over the prior few days. These are noted with parentheses.

Notes:
1) A Hopeful Expectation
2) An Unfortunate Renunciation
3) A Surprising Culmination
