Matthew 5:1-3
The Poor In Spirit

Join us on Sunday as we begin a new sermon series for the summer months that will walk through Jesus' teaching on The Beatitudes. In Matthew 5:1–3, Jesus opens the Sermon on the Mount with a shocking invitation: “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” In a world that trains us to push, perform, and prove ourselves, Jesus tells us that the gateway to real life is not achievement but radical dependence. The word he uses for “poor” describes someone completely destitute and entirely reliant on the mercy of another. That is the posture of the kingdom. Rather than hustling to build a resume that secures our worth, we are invited to rest in the grace of the Father. Because Jesus became poor for us, we are free to put down the pressure of self‑promotion and joyfully lower ourselves before him.
