Jesus teaches that no one can serve two masters. Yet we often try to live with divided loyalties. We believe in the Lord Jesus, and we often forsake him and turn toward the things of this world. In Matthew 5:8 Jesus says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Purity is not merely external behavior. Jesus directs our attention to the purity that is internal, the purity of heart. On Sunday we will consider how our desires and motives must be united with our words and actions so that our whole life is directed toward God alone.
