This Sunday we continue in the Beatitudes with the promise Jesus gives to those who mourn (Matthew 5:4). Many of us quietly believe that a pain-free life is the good life, so we shape our lives to avoid anything that might hurt. When difficulty finally comes, we often build emotional walls to keep from feeling the weight of the loss. Yet Jesus tells us that comfort does not come from avoiding sorrow but from bringing our wounds to him. Mourning becomes the place where he restores.
